Our Story
Born from the mountains
Das Haus began as a dream — to create a place where the wild grandeur of the Himalayas meets the warmth of a home. Not a hotel. Not a resort. A retreat.
How Das Haus came to be
How Das Haus came to be
In 2018, our founders — a pair of architects and lifelong trekkers — stumbled upon a forgotten meadow at 2,400 metres above sea level in the Kullu Valley. The views were staggering. The silence, profound. They knew immediately: this was not a place to pass through. It was a place to stay.
Over three years, they worked with local craftsmen, using deodar cedar, river stone, and reclaimed timber to build the first two domes and an A-frame. Every structure was designed to disappear into the landscape — to feel like it had always been there.
Das Haus — German for 'the house' — is a nod to the founders' time studying architecture in Berlin. But the soul of the place is entirely Himalayan: unhurried, elemental, and quietly extraordinary.
"The mountains are not a backdrop. They are the reason."

What to do
The Das Haus experience
We believe the best luxury is time — time to walk, to sit, to look. Our activities are curated to help you slow down and connect with the landscape.
Sunrise Treks
Our guides lead small groups to ridge-top viewpoints before dawn. Watch the Pir Panjal range turn gold as the sun rises over the peaks.
Stargazing Nights
At 2,400m with minimal light pollution, the night sky is extraordinary. We provide telescopes, star maps, and warm chai around the campfire.
Fly Fishing
The Beas river runs through the valley below. Our instructors offer half-day fly fishing sessions for beginners and experienced anglers alike.
Photography Walks
The Himalayas offer endless compositions. Our photography walks cover golden hour, alpine flora, and the textures of mountain life.
Campfire Dinners
Each evening, our camp chef prepares a three-course dinner under the stars. Locally sourced ingredients, open fire, and mountain air.
Bird Watching
The Kullu Valley is home to over 300 bird species including the Himalayan monal, lammergeier, and koklass pheasant. Binoculars provided.
What to expect
A few things to know
No Wi-Fi by design
We offer limited connectivity intentionally. A single shared terminal is available for emergencies. We encourage you to be present.
Weather changes fast
Mountain weather is unpredictable. Pack layers regardless of season. We provide extra blankets, rain gear, and hot water bottles.
Altitude awareness
At 2,400m, some guests experience mild altitude effects on arrival. Rest on your first afternoon, drink plenty of water, and acclimatise gently.
Sustainable by choice
Solar power, rainwater harvesting, composting toilets, and zero single-use plastics. We ask guests to bring refillable bottles.
